Latest Updates from Our Project:

February Update: Shipping Progress!!
7 months ago – Wed, Feb 25, 2026 at 10:08:18 AM

Ahoy!

Zac here. Shipping is happening! Actually, it's been happening for a few weeks. Lots of you have already received your stuff, and the rest of the packages are shipping soon.

This month has been busy. Let's get into it...

Give Away Contest!

We've got a very, very few of these Limited Editions of the core book left. You can't buy them from us (unless we show up with a random few at a show)...but you can win one! Here's how:

USING THE TAG IS VERY IMPORTANT! If you don't use it, you won't get filtered into the entries. If you've already posted, but forgot to add the hashtag, you can go back and edit it in.

Give-Away Items: Starting the week of February 16th and going through March 16th, we're going to give away one signed Limited Edition each week. That's five chances to win!

  • First Winner: Luke Robertson on Facebook

Selection Process: Each week, Tyler and I will peruse all posts with #pirateborgbooty and do a semi-random selection for the winner. We'll announce winners on our Facebook Group, Discord, and in the comment section here on Kickstarter, and we'll DM you directly on socials. You'll have a week to respond before we move on to the next person.

If we're not traveling, we may even pop into a video chat on the Discord and do the selection live.

Kickstarter Fulfillment

Everything is shipping!

If you're in the UK, EU, Asia, Australia (or really anywhere that's not North or South America), your order is shipped! It's coming from Spiral Galaxy Games in the United Kingdom, and as of yesterday, they've let us know they're 100% complete.

If you're in the United States, Canada, Mexico, or South America, your order will be shipped from Flying Cloud Fulfillment here in the US (Baltimore). They are well into fulfillment, at just over 50% complete.

Some backers have reported that they've received their items without a shipping notification, so please allow for another 2 weeks for non-American orders to arrive, 2-3 weeks for US-based orders, and 2-4 weeks for non-US American orders.

Missing Surveys

80 people still need to fill out their surveys or pay for their shipping. If you can't find your survey when you login in, here are some things to try:

  • Search your email for "Response Needed — Get your reward for PIRATE BORG: Down Among the Dead", or
  • Check your login, some folks end up with two different Backerkit email profiles, or
  • If you absolutely can’t find your survey, you can request it directly: downamongthedead.backerkit.com, or
  • If all of those fail, you can hit me up ([email protected]), giving me your name and Backer Number, and I'll help if I can.

Ship of the Dead Podcast

Season 2 of our Ship of the Dead Podcast has begun! It's Luke's opportunity to sit down with some of our favorite tabletop RPG designers. Because of the stretch goal you unlocked, we're doubling down on PIRATE BORG topics.

Next month, we'll start releasing the episodes for each of the adventures in Down Among the Dead. We've been running the adventures all last year at conventions, so we're bringing in experienced GMs to deep dive into tips & tactics for each one.

The Into the Maelstrom episodewill drop in March, with Lost to the Locker and Venom in the Veins coming in April.

3rd-Party Campaigns

Closing out ZineQuest, there are still a few Pirate Borg projects LIVE and another one on its way. Have one of your own coming soon? Shoot me a DM and tell us all about it!

An Acre of Barren Ground

This little pamphlet adventure snuck up on us, but it's being made by Randall Harris, one of our most veteran Harbourmasters. We give him, his GMing chops, and this project our highest recommendation: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1715commons/an-acre-of-barren-ground

The Winds of Hell

Next month should be go-time for Winds of Hell, a campaign book for Pirate Borg, that'll be accompanied by the Saltwater Sacrament zine and several other tba items. There's an Early-Bird and Limited Quantity item revealed over on the landing page:   https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/epicrpgs/pirate-borg-the-winds-of-hell

Tales from the Locker: Issue One

ENDS IN 2 HOURS! The anthology is in its last day and just hit its last Stretch Goal! Let's see how high you and I can push them: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arcanescrollworks4/tales-from-the-locker-1

That's it for this month. Next month is a wild ride with GAMA, Gary Con, and PAX East. If you haven't yet, be sure to join the Discord, the Facebook Group, and the Patreon.

January Update: Shipping Report & Contest!
9 months ago – Thu, Jan 22, 2026 at 07:42:15 AM

Ahoy!

Zac here. Fulfillment updates, VTT progress, giveaways, and new preorder options are buried below...

Kickstarter Fulfillment

We got great news on both the US and UK fronts this week: both shipments have cleared customs and should be delivered to our warehouses within the next few days! This is a bit later than we had hoped, but I feel really good about some of the orders still going out in January.

If you're in the United States, Canada, Mexico, or South America, your order will be shipped from Flying Cloud Fulfillment here in the US (Baltimore). If you're anywhere outside the Americas, your order is shipping from Spiral Galaxy Games out of the United Kingdom.

Please keep in mind that there are thousands of orders to fulfill, each with a different combination of rewards. So it could take several weeks after fulfillment starts before your particular order is shipped.

Digital VTT Content

Foundry will be the first to get finished, and Tyler is neck-deep in both Down Among the Dead and the Starter Set. I think he said he's got 10 hours left to wrap up DAtD, then it goes in for a quality check. Roll20 will follow shortly thereafter. Alchemy is on their own timeline, but they're progressing steadily.

Give Away Contest!

We've got a very, very few of these Limited Editions of the core book left. You can't buy them from us (unless we show up with a random few at a show)...but you can win one! Here's how:

Give-Away Items: Starting the week of February 16th and going through March 16th, we're going to give away one signed Limited Edition each week. That's five chances to win!

You'll have a week to respond before we move on to the next person.

If we're not traveling, we may even pop into a video chat on the Discord and do the selection live.

Pre-Orders

If you missed the Kickstarter and the Backerkit, we've still got you covered. We've got pre-orders up on our webstore for just about everything. Anything you order here will ship after the Kickstarter fulfillment and is (currently) only shipping from our US warehouse.

FREE Battle Map

Of course, I used my "tide" pun on last month's map, and then Luke went and released a coastal map for this month. If you backed the Starter Set, you'll notice that this map connects seamlessly with its beach map...and also our Hangman's Beach, and also our Hangman's Jungle.

If Luke's not careful, he may end up making the whole island!

There's all sorts of variants for Patreon subscribers, like more open beach, night versions, and blood-soaked, skull-littered sand, but this particular version is on the house:

If you haven't checked out the Patreon yet, we'd appreciate a gander. It helps keep this ship afloat, but more than that, it's packed with all the tools we think every pirate is sure to need.

  • Hundreds of Ships/Tokens/Assets
  • Thousands of Pirate/Nautical Maps
  • Foundry VTT Builds for Everything (Admiral & Kraken Tiers)
  • First-looks & Previews for the Dark Caribbean
  • Access to the Ship of the Dead Podcast: Season 2 a full week early...that's right, Season 2!

Conventions

Wanna run some games with us this year? We'd love to have you!
Make sure you've signed up to be a Harbourmaster, then fill out our Convention Games form.
Quartermaster Tyler will hit you up soon after.

3rd-Party Campaigns

February is Zine Month/ZineQuest/ZineTopia, which is one of my favorite times of the year. At least two creators will be bringing Pirate Borg projects to the table:

Tales from the Locker: Issue One

SkeletonKey Games has a who's-who of Borg creators spinning their yarns in Tales from the Locker #1, a Pirate Borg anthology. Stuff like The Temple of Atlach-Nacha by Lars White, The Cartographer's Den by Alexander Jatscha-Zelt, Island of 1,000 Corpses by Phil Reed, and even a Quartermaster's Corner by our very own Quartermaster Tyler! Launches Feb. 1st: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arcanescrollworks4/tales-from-the-locker-1

These Bloody Sails

I got the chance to playtest part of this one with the designer, and it's great. Will knows his stuff, and I think the included Island of 10,000 Flamingos adventure is a real gem. He's launching just a day or two into February: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thiseffingmgames/pirate-borg-these-bloody-sails

The Winds of Hell

Finally, here's someone who keeps trying to bold/italicize/emphasize the "Dark" in Dark Caribbean (me). We're getting a whole lot closer to releasing Winds of Hell, so look for it to launch as soon as all the zine celebrations wrap up: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/epicrpgs/pirate-borg-the-winds-of-hell

That's it for this month. We're so excited for you all to get Down Among the Dead in your hands! If you haven't yet, be sure to join the Discord, the Facebook Group, and the Patreon.

We'd love to chat.

End of Year Update: Shipping Dates(!) & Charges
10 months ago – Wed, Dec 10, 2025 at 09:34:07 AM

Ahoy!

Zac here. At long last, here's the update we've all been itching for. We've got arrival dates for the last of our items, so we think we can start putting together a fulfillment timeline.

Estimated Shipping Date: Mid-to-Late January!

Also, we've got something sick to show you...

(keep reading for the details)

Kickstarter Fulfillment

Please keep in mind that there are thousands of orders to fulfil, each with a different combination of rewards. So it could take several weeks after fulfillment starts before your particular order is shipped.

Digital Content

Everything is fulfilled except for the VTT versions of the new items. Those are currently being worked on. I'd say we're shooting for the next 30 days or so for both Foundry and Roll20, with Alchemy coming shortly after that.

American Backers

If you're in the United States, Canada, Mexico, or South America, your order will be shipped from Flying Cloud Fulfillment here in the US (Baltimore). We love these guys. The boat with our last items is set to arrive in port the first week of January. They say to expect 10-14 days for it to make its way through customs and reach their warehouse, so we're looking at probably end of January for shipping.

UK, EU, and RoW Backers

If you're anywhere outside the Americas, your order is shipping from Spiral Galaxy Games out of the United Kingdom. These folks are new for us, but they've been excellent to work with and we think they're going to do a great job handling your items. That boat is expected around the end of December, so they hope to start shipping around mid-January.

We'll put out another update in January, letting you know how everything's going!

Locking Addresses & Shipping Charges

This is your notice that locked addresses and shipping charges are coming very soon.

  • Within the next few days, you'll get an email from Backerkit, notifying you that we're locking addresses in 48 hours.
  • After that, you'll get a second email from Backerkit within the next week or so, letting you know that your card will be charged in 48 hours.

You don't need to do anything at that point, as long as you've got a working card on file and have completed the survey (which is 98% of you), your card will charge and we're all good to go.

Updating Shipping Address / Credit Card

If you need to change either of these things, head over to Backerkit, login, then change them directly in your profile. If you want to double-check that your address changed on our project, you can navigate to View My Surveys > Pirate Borg: Down Among the Dead > View Order.

Missing Surveys

80 people still need to fill out their surveys.

If you still want to get in on the Kickstarter: You can pre-order everything here. That will be closing before the end of the year though.

FREE Battle Map

To tide you over till the product arrives, here's another free battle map! In our quest to do a map for every conceivable piratical location, we couldn't forget the prison.

All the free maps (there's 100+ now) are downloadable from the home page of our Patreon.

If you want all the variants and assets, you get get every item for every release for a single month's pledge! Tyler's even built out every release on Foundry VTT, if that's your jam.

Conventions

We'll have more to say about this in our next newsletter, but we just wrapped PAX Unplugged in Philly and premiered our massive new booth! Quartermaster Tyler built it, and he also put together a quick video showing off the process:

Here's what our schedule looks like for early 2026:

We want you to join the team!
If you’d like to run Pirate Borg at GaryCon or any other show in 2026, we’d love to have you.
To sign up, please fill out our Harbourmaster form as soon as possible and email Quartermaster Tyler ([email protected]) or DM him on Discord (Sorth24).

3rd-Party Campaigns

These Bloody Sails

One of our convention crew members, Will Tramp, is putting together a wild nautical adventure full of random tables, rules for travel and chases, and mini adventures for your crew! He's planning on launching in February just in time for ZineQuest: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thiseffingmgames/pirate-borg-these-bloody-sails

Tales from the Locker: Issue One

SkeletonKey Games just got done with Three from the Locker, and they're following it up with an anthology zine filled with adventure locations, a heist one-shot, a new character class, heaps of creatures (including creatures that are heaps), thematic NPCs, and loads of tables. You can follow it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arcanescrollworks4/tales-from-the-locker-1

The Winds of Hell

And here at the end we have The Winds of Hell, which is my demon-themed campaign book that sails alongside Austin Martin's own Saltwater Sacrament. We're excited to summon both of these into existence: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/epicrpgs/pirate-borg-the-winds-of-hell

We'll check back in soon.

If you haven't yet, be sure to join the Discord, the Facebook Group, and the Patreon!

September/October Update: Digital Files & Product Arriving!
11 months ago – Thu, Nov 06, 2025 at 03:57:37 PM

Ahoy!

Zac here. As Gandalf said, "It's the deep breath before the plunge." We're in the waiting game, as our jobs are pretty much done with this Kickstarter, and we're waiting on the factories to get all the loot to the warehouses.

That said, we're not sitting on our laurels. There's some big stuff that's dropped tonight over on Backerkit.

Let's get into it.

Kickstarter Fulfillment

Digital Content

Cabin Fever VTT Asset Pack | Tyler and I finished off our work on this and put it up on Backerkit. This was a Stretch Goal that provides map, token, art, and handout assets for everything tied to that release. It's five adventures plus over a dozen other pieces of content, including 120 character tokens!

As this project was a larger work by our Known Conspirators, 3rd-collaboration crew, we won't be putting together a Foundry or Roll20 release for it; however, don't be surprised if some of the individual creators put their stuff up on a VTT platform or two themselves.

Finalized PDFs | There are loads and loads of new PDF content for practically all of the new books over on Backerkit. While not much about the content has changed, there's quality of life improvements throughout, like hyperlinked text in the books, and asset kits. We even made an asset kit for a few items we weren't expecting!

The one exception to this is the Into the Maelstrom adventure in Down Among the Dead, which has seen a significant revision. Barring us catching some major issue, these should be the true final files for each of these releases.

All new PDF content has "[Final]" at the end of its title. All [Final] files are the same, regardless of whether they have asterisks (*) at the end of their names.

DriveThruRPG Delivery

Now that we've got final files, I'll be going through and getting all of them up on DriveThru over the next week. At that point, I'll be able to start kicking out your files through that platform as well. I'd say you can expect to have those in hand by November 19th.

Down Among the Dead VTT

Additionally, Tyler and I will also be able to tackle the Alchemy, Foundry, and Roll20 versions of Down Among the Dead pretty quickly. I don't have a timeline that I'm confident in here yet, but but it won't be until after DriveThru is fulfilled and PAX Unplugged is over...so maybe you'll start to see these in December?

Physical Product

Luke got in the creator copies of every product! Here's a quick video he put together showing off everything in detail:

Books from Lithuania have arrived at the fulfillment centers! China is prepping to ship everything, so we've been filling out piles of paperwork, and coordinating between all the hubs. We don't have a projected date from China yet. Keep reading for a full shipping timeline.

Address Locking & Shipping Charges

We're working on getting everything built out for shipping charges in the Pledge Manager. You won't be seeing those charges until at least late November, but we'll be sure to give you a few days heads up when it's about to happen.

When that happens, you will get an email notice informing you that in 48 hours we'll be charging your card for shipping. Please make sure you have an up-to-date card on file, as it will delay the shipping of your item if the card is declined for more than a few days.

This means we won't be shipping before December. It could be later than that, but it won't be before.

Shipping charges are still being calculated, but in general we were pretty close on our estimates for smaller orders. However, the weights of several items increased, to the point where if you're at the Kraken tier, you're getting nearly 20 pounds (9kg) of content! That's in part due to us packing even more stuff into items like the Starter Set. For the bigger bundles, expect your shipping to be a bit more than what we estimated during the Kickstarter.

Tariffs & Support

So, you all were amazing over the past month. We needed help paying for the tariffs and asked for you to consider adding more items to your orders.

We think, roughly, you all have covered about 1/2 of our expected tariff! That's insane. It helps us out in an immense way, and we're beyond grateful.

We just want to reiterate that we aren't charging you for tariffs, nor will we be upping your shipping charges to offset them.

Backerkit has gone ahead and re-locked orders, so if you still want to add items to your pledge, you just need to email me directly ([email protected]) or DM me on Discord (@zacgoins), and I can help get that sorted.

Missing Surveys

150 people still need to fill out their surveys.

If you still want to get in on the Kickstarter: You can pre-order everything here.

Free Battle Map!

We just wrapped up Halloween, and over on Patreon, we dropped a Haunted Monastery / Spanish Mission for last month's FREE battle map. I personally think it's one of the best maps Luke's ever put together.

If you're a member of the Patreon, there's about 15 other variations to this map, including a Vampire one that I'm particularly fond of. Tyler's also been hard at work getting the Foundry version ready to go; check out some screenshots down below. You can get this module and all other Patreon Foundry modules in one fell swoop by joining the Admiral tier.

If you haven't joined the Patreon yet, there's never been a better time to fix that. Luke's dropping battle maps and Dark Caribbean content on the regular, plus that's where all the PIRATE BORG adventures get released first in their Alpha state.

We'd love to have you.

Upcoming Conventions

We want you to join the team!
If you’d like to run Pirate Borg at PAX Unplugged, or at any show in 2026, we’d love to have you on board. We're looking for GMs for Gary Con in March and Gen Con 2026 in particular.
To sign up, please fill out our Harbourmaster form as soon as possible and email Quartermaster Tyler ([email protected]) or message him on Discord (Sorth24).

3rd-Party Campaigns

It Comes from the Deep / Curse of the Rumrunners

Steve Gibbs has been running games and sketching out content for PIRATE BORG practically since the beginning. He's a familiar face at some of our conventions, and we're very excited to see him diving into publishing with a pair of adventures. You should definitely give him a pledge. Heck, make a second Kickstarter profile and give him two!: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/universeinabox/it-comes-from-the-deep-pirate-borg

The Winds of Hell

Finally, Austin Martin, Joe Raso, Fen Woodruff, myself, and a few other folks have been working on a larger pair of projects called The Winds of Hell and Saltwater Sacrament. If you're interested in a full campaign for the Dark Caribbean, filled with plenty of daemonkind, you're gonna have blast: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/epicrpgs/pirate-borg-the-winds-of-hell

That's it for this month! We'll hit you back up in December with another update.

If you haven't yet, be sure to join the Discord, the Facebook Group, and the Patreon!

Talk Like a Pirate Week!
about 1 year ago – Mon, Sep 15, 2025 at 09:34:06 AM

Ahoy, Scallywags and Harbourmasters,

Tyler the Quartermaster here, and we interrupt the standard update again to bring you this year's Talk Like a Pirate Week!

Every year, we celebrate the holiday by hosting in-store events and special incentives. It's THIS WEEK (September 15th-21st), we've got all sorts of stuff happening, and I wanted to make sure you knew all about it.

New Adventure: The Gold Bug

This is a FREE adventure for anyone who pops over to the Patreon during TLAP week.

It’s a Proper Pirate Dungeon! The kind a rich pirate lord would build for his most important assets. Ciphers, traps, puzzles and decoys. Inspired by the famous Edgar Allan Poe short story.

If you want to run it at your game store this week, head over to our website to become a Harbourmaster, then post the game on our event calendar!

Harbourmaster Rewards

Season 2 of our Harbourmaster Rewards program is also closing on September 19th, and Season 3 will start the exact same day. This means:

  • Your last chance to get in on Season 2 swag is the 19th!
  • Your first chance to earn Season 3 swag is the 19th!
  • You earn double points by running on the 19th!
  • You can order Season 2 & 3 rewards soon after TLAPW.

Check out the Harbourmaster page for complete details, timelines, and how to claim all the rewards!

If this is the first time you've ever heard about our Harbourmaster program, you're welcome to climb aboard! Harbourmasters are what we call our Gamemasters, and just by running public games at your local game store, library, convention, or on a YouTube/Twitch stream, you earn points toward free, exclusive booty with free shipping inside the US!

Retail Stores

Talk Like a Pirate Week is a great way to host a memorable in-store event, draw attention to a new product line, and build your community. TLAP Week digital assets, like social media graphics and printable posters, are available directly from Limithron, and we're also happy to send you the exclusive adventure for your GMs to run on location! Sign up here.

If you know of a game store that should take part in our events, let us know!
